Phoenix vs Penn & Tylers Green

Phoenix Sports travel to Penn & Tylers Green on Saturday afternoon hoping to make it five wins in a row and secure a place in the second round of the FA Vase.

Jake Goodman’s side head into the game following an comprehensive 5-1 victory at Tunbridge Wells last Saturday. Jamarie Brissett struck a hat-trick, with Lyle Della-Verde and Isaac Hadlow also on target as Phoenix continued their excellent run of form.

That result followed victories over Rusthall, Erith & Belvedere and Larkfield & New Hythe. Phoenix have now collected 13 points from their last five league matches, scoring 13 goals across those four successive wins.

Attention now turns to the Vase, where Phoenix booked their place in the first round with a 4-3 victory over Billingshurst last month. Having led 4-1, Phoenix held off a late fightback to progress and find now themselves seven wins from Wembley.

Penn & Tylers Green have had a mixed start to their first season at Step Five. They opened with wins over Thatcham Town and Holyport, but currently sit 14th in the Combined Counties Premier Division North with 12 points from 11 matches. Their most recent league outing ended in a 3–2 defeat at Harefield United, although they responded on Tuesday night with a 3–2 victory over Didcot Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

The hosts reached this stage of the Vase by overcoming London Samurai Rovers on penalties following a 2-2 draw, winning the shootout 5-4.

For Phoenix, the challenge is to carry their recent league performances into knockout football. Confidence is high after four successive victories, but another committed performance will be needed to extend that run and keep their FA Vase campaign going.

The first-round tie will be the first time the two sides have met and has to be decided on the day with the tie going straight to penalties in the event of a draw.
