Match Preview: Phoenix vs Rusthall FC

Phoenix Sports return to league action on Saturday afternoon when Rusthall visit the Christopher Russell Stadium for a 3pm kick-off in the SCEFL Premier Division.
Jake Goodman’s side will be looking to build on Tuesday night’s 1–1 draw with AFC Greenwich Borough and their 4-3 victory over Billingshurst in the FA Vase.
Rusthall have started the campaign well and will present a different challenge from the side Phoenix faced here last season. On that occasion, Phoenix produced one of their most convincing performances of the campaign to win 4-0.
Louie Downey broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time, sliding home after Kieron McCann had beaten the Rusthall goalkeeper to a loose ball. Harry Barnes doubled the lead from the penalty spot just two minutes later, before Jamarie Brissett and Lyle Della-Verde completed the scoring.
Rusthall have won all three of their home league games this season, beating Fisher, Kennington and Beckenham Town. They have lost both away fixtures, against Snodland Town and Corinthian, and sit eighth in the table. Jack Kirby has been in sparkling form for Rusthall, scoring five goals already this season.
Saturday offers Phoenix another opportunity to build momentum in front of their home supporters. Goodman’s side will hope to show the same discipline they displayed against Greenwich Borough, alongside the attacking quality that brought them four goals in last season’s meeting.

By train: Barnehurst Station is just a 10-minute walk from the ground—this line runs regularly through Travelcard Zone 5
By bus: The 492 stops directly outside the ground
From central London: A direct Southeastern train from Charing Cross to Barnehurst takes around 40 minutes
There is parking in the school opposite the ground parking in the side streets that surround the ground. With a larger than usual attendance expected we're expecting it to be busier than usual.
