Excellent Phoenix put promotion-chasing Rusthall to the sword

Phoenix Sports produced a dominant performance at the Christopher Russell Stadium to secure an impressive 4–0 victory over Rusthall, with goals from Louie Downey, Harry Barnes, Jamarie Brissett and Lyle Della-Verde sealing all three points.
Phoenix started the game on the front foot and created the first opening of the afternoon after 12 minutes. The ball dropped invitingly to Jamarie Brissett on the edge of the area, but his strike took an unfortunate deflection off a teammate and stayed out.
The hosts continued to threaten and nearly broke the deadlock four minutes later. Taylor Fisher showed great determination down the left before firing a dangerous ball across goal. Louie Downey arrived at the near post but was unable to guide his effort on target.
Both sides then had huge chances in a frantic spell midway through the first half. Rusthall thought they had the breakthrough when Louie Clarke saw his effort cleared dramatically off the line, before Phoenix immediately countered.
Brissett produced some excellent work down the right only for his cross to fall at the feet of Harry Barnes, whose powerful strike crashed against the crossbar.
Phoenix thought they had taken the lead on 31 minutes when the ball found the net, but celebrations were cut short as Paul Lee was adjudged to have handled in the build-up and the goal was ruled out.
The breakthrough finally came five minutes before half-time. Kieron McCann beat Rusthall goalkeeper Reece Hobbs to a loose ball and poked it towards goal, where Louie Downey reacted quickest to slide home from close range and give Phoenix a deserved lead.
Phoenix doubled their advantage just two minutes later. Brissett was brought down inside the area and Harry Barnes stepped up to confidently dispatch the penalty, smashing the ball home to send the hosts into the break with a 2–0 lead.
Phoenix maintained their momentum after the restart and added a third goal eight minutes into the second half. A superb move began with Phoenix playing out from the back before finding Taylor Fisher just inside his own half. Fisher delivered a perfectly weighted ball in behind the Rusthall defence, allowing Brissett to run through and calmly slot past Hobbs.
Brissett almost added another shortly after the hour mark when he broke clear once again, but this time the Rusthall goalkeeper produced a good save to deny him.
The game continued to open up and substitute Khayrie Harris created another big opportunity on 76 minutes, sliding a pass through to Brissett, but Hobbs was again quick off his line to smother.
Phoenix remained solid at the back and were determined to protect their clean sheet. With seven minutes remaining, Ben Morrison produced an outstanding recovery challenge to deny Rusthall what looked like a certain goal.
The hosts continued to push forward in the closing stages. Harris came close to getting on the scoresheet before Fisher saw another effort well saved. Lyle Della-Verde also went close, curling just over from the edge of the box.
Phoenix eventually added a fourth goal deep into stoppage time. After excellent work down the right, Harris was brought down in the penalty area and Della-Verde stepped up to calmly roll the spot-kick into the corner.
It capped an excellent afternoon for Phoenix Sports, who delivered a commanding performance from start to finish to secure an emphatic 4–0 victory.
