Dominant Phoenix earn crucial victory to earn third win in a row

Phoenix Sports produced a strong all-round performance to secure an impressive 4-1 victory over Hollands & Blair, moving to within three points of the SCEFL Premier Division play-off places.
The hosts made a bright start and were rewarded in the 16th minute. Taylor Fisher slipped a brilliant pass through to Jamarie Brissett, whose clever effort looked destined for goal, but Louie Downey made absolutely sure by applying the finishing touch to give Phoenix an early lead.
Hollands & Blair responded in the 23rd minute when Kane Rowland broke down the right and forced a smart save from Ryan McCourt. Phoenix, however, remained dangerous going forward.
Brissett came close to doubling the lead on 32 minutes when he raced clear, only to see his effort tipped wide by Dan Ellis. Shortly after, Fisher’s dangerous cross was narrowly missed by Enyinnaya Ezenwanne as Phoenix turned the screw.
Just before the break, McCourt was called into action again, producing a brave punch to clear an inswinging corner under pressure, taking a knock in the process but continuing after treatment.
Phoenix took their 1-0 lead into the interval and made a change at the restart, with Khayrie Harris replacing Kieron McCann.
The second half began perfectly for the hosts. In the 51st minute, Jake Goodman surged forward from defence and played a perfectly weighted pass to Brissett, who rounded the goalkeeper and calmly finished to make it 2-0.
Hollands & Blair pulled a goal back on 61 minutes when Dieko Falade capitalised on a defensive mix-up to reduce the deficit.
However, Phoenix restored their two-goal cushion soon after. On 70 minutes, substitute Harris made an immediate impact, beating his man before slotting past the goalkeeper with a composed finish.
Further changes saw Lyle Della Verde and Theo Lukyamuzi introduced as Phoenix looked to see out the game comfortably.
Deep into stoppage time, Brissett capped an excellent individual performance by timing his run perfectly and finishing clinically to seal a 4-1 victory and confirm Phoenix’s third win in a row.
Jake Goodman’s side now sit just three points shy of the play-off positions and could move into the top five with a win at Tunbridge Wells on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
